“New League, New Captain, Same Winning Formula!
Winchmore Hill made a dream start to life following promotion and a change in captain, beating Indian Gymkhana 7-1.
After going 1 nil down after an unlucky break, Matt opened the scoring for the season (and still got DOD… not bitter…) followed quickly by Colin.
It was Scholefield who stole the show, netting a hat-trick and leaving the opposition defence in shambles. Josef (screamer) and Harry (also a class finish) rounded off the scoring, securing a dominant win.
The defense was solid, conceding just one goal—but when you score seven, who’s counting?
If the rest of the season looks like this, the WH&EHC boys are laughing!”

“A late away day to start off the season for the men’s 2’s under their new captain, long serving member of the club Calum. Several new debutants recruited over the summer including Rob, Kieran, Zach and Linus in goal.
Winchmore clearly listened to new head coach Ollie’s instructions as the passing and recycling was sublime in the opening half, however a ricocheted flick into the D was saved by Linus but unfortunately tapped in by the home side for 1-0. This did not stop Winchmore as we pressed hard for an equaliser with Dom and Rob spreading balls into the D until Zach got on and the end of one for the equaliser.
Second half rolled around and Cal was left eating his words, he made a deal with Ellis that he could come out of defence but if he was rubbish, he was coming straight back. He only went and scored. Being honest, I missed this goal as I was arguing with John about marking. But I hear it was an acrobatic effort.
Winch kept out the pressing West Hampstead and defended several short corners, Youngsters Arran, John P, James and William and a returning Pete all doing a great job in their roles. A hero moment from Linus making a low diving goal line save off the line to keep us in the lead and securing 3 points.
Donkey of the day: Cal for unintentionally tripping a striker up when in on goal and for wearing a knee brace but injuring his foot.”

“North London is Purple!!!
The Women’s 1’s met Southgate for the most important North London derby of the year.
We started strong with some great passages of play and teamwork. Some sexy hockey led to a short corner where a ‘The Trusty Rugby Huns’ set up worked its magic and Shell scored, putting us 1-0 up.
Some fight back from Southgate led to a few short corners but no real scares for Nic in goal.
The second half we started wobbly, being a bit hectic and messy including our biggest scare of everyone trying to score against Nic, including her own team!
We sorted ourselves out in the end. Matching the energy of Southgate who felt like they had a million subs. An umpiring mishap led to a retake of a free hit ending with the ball of Harriet’s stick, which she calmly put on the Southgate foot for another short corner.
Southgate set themselves to defend against The Rugby Huns, leaving a lovely gap at the near side for Sam to slot the ball into the goal for a second. The last two minutes, true to form, we tried to be frantic forgetting possession hockey existed, but left it in Southgate’s defensive 25 to run the clock down.“

“It was a new dawn in a different league for W2s today. Actually it was knocking on dusk by the time we finished!
Start of the season, it’s always sunny and the black cat that was lurking around as we warmed up sadly didn’t bring us any luck.
We played well with some strong passing and good movement on and off the ball but it wasn’t to be. Lisa’s encyclopaedic knowledge of the rules saw the first oppo goal chalked off and we reset. Charlotte got up close and personal talking to a ball and had to reach for an ice pack and the subsequent subbing around threw us off course but we went in to half time just 1-0 down.
Second half Alice scored and we were off but the heat saw us melting and we were undone. 3 goals got past us in total and tired legs abound.
Still – we saw some great passages of play. Anna & Caroline gained a well deserved joint player of the match, working really well together down the right. Lorna got DOD. I’m not entirely sure why, but she left the club with Winfield the Moose, tasked to send photos of his adventures this week. The only way is up for us. Home next week v Southgate. Bring it on…..”
