Men’s First Team Match Report

WHE Men 6-2 PHC Chiswick 4’s – Home

Goal scorers: C. Foad, J. Turmaine (4), S. Turmaine
Player of the Match: tbc

On a dull wet afternoon in Enfield, WH&E welcomed a travelling Chiswick 4th Xl to the home of hockey in North London.

The game started well for WH&E as we dominated the pitch with our well executed passing and it payed off well as an early goal from a PC came from the Rolls Royce Sam T. Keeping composure we continued to dominate and soon another goal came from Mr Colin Foaden with a beautiful assist from Alex S, putting Colin 1 on 1 with the keeper and he doesn’t miss these. Again we continued to dominate with Joe T entering the field…..

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM, the Venga bus is coming and everyone is jumping! 4 absolute clinical thumping strikes from the man Joe T of the bench giving WH&E a 6-0 lead going into half time. (I’m so happy he’s on my team and I don’t have to face these shots 😅)

Half time team talk resulted in us setting goals for the 2nd half, clean sheet and double digit scoring. Didn’t go to plan 🥲

We continued to play good hockey with our clinical passing and dominating the game but Chiswick had nothing to lose. They stepped up their game and we took our foot of the gas just a little. This resulted in them winning a short corner, and with a half decent strike through a few players and a gaping hole on my right post, I saw it too late and it was in the back of my net. Chiswick continued to go for goal and soon, after an blundering effort to pad an easy ball away, the ball just crossed the goal line even with captain Ross ‘Tally Ho’ Davidson best efforts to keep it out it was 6-2. We continued to play well but Chiswick were not rolling over and had a handful of attempts at goal, but with the previous mess up ‘The Wall’ had got his poly filler out and patched up the cracks denying Chiswick a late comeback. A solid effort from everyone today everywhere on the pitch, a couple of expected green cards for Adam M and Dan M also notable, but most importantly a win and holding our place 2nd in the league as we push for back to back promotions.
