“The 1s were a few players short today and didn’t have the best warm-up. We’ve been trying to work on improving our focus and intensity before matches, and I can’t say we quite managed that today. That said, Winchmore got off to a flying start, scoring within the first two minutes. Some lovely play, sharp passing, and great movement up the pitch ended with Anna R slotting the ball home.
Unfortunately, we then went through a spell of confusion and disorganisation at the back, which saw two goals go in, leaving us 1–2 down. But in a move similar to our first goal, we broke quickly up the pitch and Vicky Greensmith finished it off perfectly to level things up before half-time.
At 2–2 going into the second half, we were unlucky to have a flick awarded against us after an unseen opposition foot inside the D—but Nic pulled off an excellent save to keep us in it. Funny how karma works sometimes!
Both teams created good chances, but Winchmore were the ones to convert a short corner, with Vicky grabbing her second goal of the match. We then saw out the rest of the game, with the final whistle blowing during a West Hampstead short corner—but our defence stood strong and cleared the ball out of the D.
The work rate from everyone today was immense once again. We left everything out there and came away with three well-earned points. Ending the 1st quarter of the season with two wins, a draw and two losses
