Women’s First Team 2-1 Hampstead & Westminster 6’s – Away
Goal scorers: S. Deane, V. Greensmith
Player of the Match: V. Greensmith
“Having played two home games back to back, this week saw the women’s 1s team venture over to Paddington to play Hampstead and Westminster. After utilising the running track that surrounds the pitch for our warm up, and getting to know each other a bit better by learning what each others favourite animal was, it was time to focus on the game ahead. This week’s aim was to focus on two key areas – intensity and the press (our press and helping break the opposition’s press) – and we did not loose focus on these.
The game started strong and we kept the momentum up, with solid defending, communication up the pitch and an intensity to be the first on the scoreboard – and that paid off as Vicky slotted the ball into the goal against her old team. The opposition must have heard our focus area, as they came out hot off the mark in the second half to equalise. Not put off though, we continued on, keeping our heads in the game, kept legs fresh with our subs and soon enough we got our second goal, as Sam found the rebound from our short corner. It was then time to hold the lead, which we did as the team held strong defensively led by the back line. We held strong, and it paid off, as we walked away with our first win of the season with the final result of 2-1.
Player of the match – Vicky, with votes also going to Nic and Amber
