Men’s First Team 2-0 West Hampstead 8’s – Away
Goal scorers: J. Turmaine (2)
Player of the Match: K. Sorlach
“Captain Cal’s triumphant return resulted in a victory against West Hampstead this weekend. Luke stepping in goal as our keeper was poached for the 1’s home game this week. A big thank you to Luke for his efforts and clean sheet!
Winchmore started strong with several hits into the opposition’s D with Joe Turmaine returning from injury to get on the end of two early goals for Winchmore with two of his traditional rockets beating the keeper.
We unfortunately lost Colin to an injury 10 minutes into the game, wishing him a speedy recovery!
Our remaining 11 players left us with no subs and some reworking of the squad to fix the Colin shaped hole in the side. Young juniors Edward Chapman and Oscar Reekie leading the 2’s line with guidance from experienced Joe Turmaine for the rest of the match.
Winch held out with some calm possession play, keeping the opposition quiet and making sure the solid back three of Cal, Joe S and John, along with stand in keeper Luke didn’t have much to do.
Midfielders had a huge game this week, with Kieran, Guy, Jake and Teddy all working amazingly hard to keep out the attacking West Hampstead.
Winchmore held out from the 10th minute 2-0 lead to keep the game at 2-0 at the FT whistle. Circumstances made this a difficult game but three points secured and a rest week for those not playing in the cup game.
