London Youth Games 2024
About The LYG
The London Youth Games is an annual multi-sport event in which young athletes from different London boroughs compete against each other. The event aims to promote sports participation, community engagement, and healthy lifestyles among young people. Participants compete in a wide range of sports, including athletics, basketball, football, hockey, swimming, and more. The London Youth Games provide a platform for local children to showcase their talents and compete for their borough.
For the Enfield borough, WHE Hockey put themselves forward as the host for hockey, which was a winning bid!
The Buildup
After WHE Hockey being awarded the rights to host Hockey for #TeamEnfield, we jumped right into the planning! A special thanks to Dom, Lisa and Lona, amongst others whom worked tirelessly on this.
We had multiple trials in both April and May for both boys and girls to try out to compete in the games. The criteria was the player must either live or go to school in Enfield, and also be under a certain age limit too.
Once the trials were complete and both the boys and girls squads were finalised, there were regular training sessions hosted throughout June, to prep each team for the Finals at the end of June. Another special thanks, but not limited to the coaches, including Charlotte, Dom, Ross and Joe.
The Finals
The London Youth Games for Hockey was hosted at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre over Saturday 29th June for the Boys Finals, and Sunday 30th June for the Girls Finals.
The Boys
Two wins, four draws, and two losses in which was a fantastic day in the sunshine ☀️The boys played very well against some more experienced teams however they were very competitive and truly showed that they belonged in the competition. They did themselves all proud.
TheGirls
We had a fantastic weekend with the #LondonYouthGames! Team Enfield played some absolutely wonderful hockey, and battled very well against some more experienced players in the tournament ☀️
A day of smiles and giggles though, so winners all around!
