W2’s vs Southgate 6’s | GW1 Match Report

Women’s Second Team 2-1 Southgate 6’s – Away

Goal scorers: K. Allan (2)
Player of the Match: A. Jones

“It was a bit like this… Not a ball had been hit by 10:20 but by 10:30, it was push back and game faces were on. Starting the season with a game against Southgate, it was… shaky, steady, shaky, shaky, steady, steadier. Not entirely settled in the midfield area is one way to put it but somehow we made it work.

Some great transfers around the back, working the ball up through the mids with nice triangles happening all the way to the forwards and the first goal came early.

Southgate came back at us but our backs were having none of it, moving the game back towards them and wrestling the ball out for our mids to pick up and move. Abbie – player of the match – and Karen cleanly picked up these balls, distributing strongly.

Our 1-2s were strong when we went for it and we made the ball do the work, getting into space and holding it up well. A few chances went, Sarah fell over, never seen before and at one point about 8 players just left Lorna to deal with a 1-1 as they watched on and made Chris despair!

We turned it back on after a half time talk but a brief moment of distraction saw Lisa – Moose of the Match – almost score an own goal. Southgate got a short and scored but minutes later, EVERYONE just stepped it up, a fabulous period of play saw what Charlotte declared a goal straight off the training ground. Right mid to Karen centrally, popped over to Charlotte on top D and into Kareen on the P spot for her second of the game. Orla was so unlucky at the end, a great passage of play and she thundered the ball towards goal only for it to hit the post then trundle along the goal line – just wouldn’t go over. But she still sprinted across and met it, just couldn’t tip it back in.

Lots of nominations for POM today including Alice & Hannah. Winfield award for Lisa was never in doubt but Karen was a close second after nicking the oppos sweets! Sula started the season by sustaining usual hurty finger and Lorna’s newly clicking knee didn’t hold her back.

Everyone put a shift in today. Thanks to Caroline too for subs management today. Great start and some stuff to work on. But most importantly … North London is still purple 💜
